Children's Ministry

First Baptist Church has many ministries for children. Children's sermons are a frequent part of Sunday morning worship services. We have regular opportunities for children on Wednesday and Sunday nights, along with special functions on other nights of the week. Our workers in the children's program are dedicated to sharing God's Word with the children in a loving way. Some of our opportunities for children are:

  • Children's Sermons
Children's sermons are an important part of the Sunday morning worship services. Several services per month have children's sermons. Children come to the front of the sanctuary and receive a special message just for them. The Education/Youth minister usually gives these sermons.

  • Choir
These choirs provide teaching and musical training for children age 3 through grade 6. They meet on Wednesday evenings. The Preschool/First Grade and Children's (grades 2 - 6) Choirs sing for worship occasionally and during special seasons.

  • Mission Friends
Mission Friends is the organization for preschoolers, babies through pre-first. This organization meets on Wednesday night. Preschoolers move their focus from self to others. They see how God is sharing His love around the world through special helpers and how they can be helpers, too.

  • Royal Ambassadors
The Royal Ambassador group is sponsored by the Men's Ministries of First Baptist Church. The boys learn about many aspects of missions. This organization meets on Wednesday nights.

  • Sunday School
This division is designed for children in grades one through six. The number of classes is based on the number of children in each grade. At present, we have three classes: (grades 1-2, 3-4, 5-6). Family Bible Study curriculum, which is designed by editors at Lifeway Christian Resources of the Southern Baptist Convention, is used throughout this division. This curriculum contains seven basic spiritual concepts the lessons are built: Christian Worship, Christian Ministry, Christian Growth Skills, Christian Attitudes & Values, Christian Conversion, Church Membership, and Daily Living.

Children’s study materials are written to make the study of the Bible come alive, and stimulate children to study the Word of God. The teaching plans are written in a style that involves the children in the learning process. Children in the older grades are encouraged to be involved in age-appropriate ministry activities that allow them to put the Bible truths they learn into action.

The goal of the Children’s Sunday School Ministry is to enable a child to respond with understanding at the appropriate time when the Holy Spirit speaks to them about accepting Christ as Lord and Savior; and encourage positive Christian growth after a child has accepted Christ.
